Housebreaking is an issue most dog owners will have to deal with at some point in their lives. Many people love dogs but also love their neat, clean houses, so they may hesitate to give an unpredictable dog a loving home. If this predicament sounds familiar, hire an in-home trainer to prevent or quickly eliminate this problem. If you’re in the Columbus area, give me a call. You learn as I teach, so by the end of the training program you’ll have a housebroken dog or puppy as well as the knowledge to help any future dogs in your life achieve the same success.

When I met Missy, a one-year-old German Shepard mix, she was living outside in a kennel. It was covered for shade and protection, and she had a little doghouse to retreat to. She was well-loved and well taken care of, but it wasn’t exactly the kind of relationship her owner had envisioned having with his dog. For six months, he struggled to keep her from messing in the house, and finally his wife had enough of her peeing on the carpets and furniture and told him he either needed to re-home her or put her outside.

This frustration is understandable, but I’m glad Missy’s owner and his wife decided to give me a call and give Missy one more shot at really being a part of the family.

I was able to explain during the in-home consultation why Missy refused to go outside to use the bathroom, and how we could help establish boundaries for her and improve communication on the owner’s end. Through a regimen of basic obedience training, crate training, place training, and structured scheduling, we were able to move Missy back into the house and keep everyone in the family happy. Note that even at the age of one, Missy was able to be effectively house trained.
